Jason Renner, class of ’99, was the first in his family to go to college. He felt that being a “first generation college student” eased the pressure from his family to maintain certain grades or choose a specific career path. Ultimately, he decided to pursue engineering, and paid his own way through his time at Trine University, working about 20 hours per week.
Renner joined Sigma Phi Delta after he became friends with a few brothers in his freshman year engineering class. Due to his family background, he didn’t have prior exposure to anything engineering related, and Sigma Phi Delta provided… Read More +
Joseph C “Sam” Cox’s experience with Sigma Phi Delta was slightly different from the rest of his brothers, as he was 38 years old when he pledged. After he retired from the army at 38, he went to study chemical engineering at the University of Illinois initially, but later changed his major and graduated with a philosophy degree. After looking into several groups, club and fraternities during the university’s Quad Day, Cox decided to join Sigma Phi Delta, simply because his age didn’t bother them. “I ran into a couple of… Read More +
Thank you to Erich Kochberger (Rho Chapter, Bradley University) for leaving this five-star review on his chapter’s Facebook page.
He writes “Sigma Phi Delta has helped me to create lifelong bonds with men that I am happy to call my brothers. SPD has also helped me greatly in finding internships and getting in touch with employers. From setting up resume workshops to company tours SPD has helped prepare me for life after college.”

This holiday season, take a moment to rekindle your Sigma Phi Delta connections by reaching out to a fellow brother. It's the time of year to reminisce and be thankful for the experiences that have shaped your life--including membership in Sigma Phi Delta. Use the online directory to look up the contact information for a long-lost friend, and let us know if you reconnect with a fellow brother by emailing your story to This email address is being protected from spambots. It's simple: Alumni financial support allows us to attract, recruit, and retain the best engineering students--the men who will uphold Sigma Phi Delta's strong reputation as the Premier Fraternity of Engineers.
Alumni generosity has helped us to grow exponentially. The Fraternity has more than tripled in size since the year 2000. We currently have 25 active chapters on campuses across North America, and we initiated our 10,000th member last year--thanks to support from alumni like you!
You can help make an impact for our future by making your donation before our giving year ends December 31!
From Faustino Cisneros Jr. ’17 (Beta-Gamma Chapter, Lamar University)
Hurricane Harvey was a devastating experience for my family and me. It was our first experience with a flood of this magnitude. We had been through hurricanes before but not nearly as damaging as this one. At first, we did not pay much attention to it since in our past experiences hurricanes caused minimal damages and there was no need to evacuate. With Harvey, the day before it hit, water was already about six inches high and it had already covered our entire front and back yard.
Sigma Phi Delta brothers in Texas continue to be impacted by the devastation caused by Hurricane Harvey. Joseph “U/No” Jordan ’17 of Beta Gamma Chapter shares his heartbreaking story, including how his family was evacuated, how their personal belongings were destroyed, and how his wife’s family suffered not one but two deaths in the storm’s aftermath. He thanks his SPD brothers for coming to his family’s aid at a time they needed it most.
