A Message to Sigma Phi Delta Members

Remember, the first thing potential members see is you.  Please remember to conduct yourself as gentlemen.  Remember to treat your brothers with respect.  Remember, always praise in public and discipline/scold in private.  Always remember to put our best foot forward and remember, you ARE Sigma Phi Delta.

Gentlemen, we must remember that what worked in the past for recruiting will not necessarily work in the future.  As a result, remember to continually review and update you recruitment plans and techniques.  In an effort to help with updating your recruitment techniques, the Download Center has documentation for recruitment lessons learned.  Additionally, every Convention, we discuss recruitment techniques and lessons learned.  Please review previous Convention presentations for ideas.

Finally, do not forget to use the MAPP Insurance as a recruitment discriminator.  It is a feature that many fraternities do not offer.

The Supreme Council

Sigma Phi Delta was founded at the University of Southern California on April 11, 1924. Open to students with an Engineering background, it attends to both the social and professional needs of engineers. It is an organization that fosters Brotherhood, camaraderie, leadership and teamwork. Men join as individuals and form lifelong bonds with other like-minded students. Joining Sigma Phi Delta helps a man develop the skills, confidence, morality, and sense of teamwork necessary to become an excellent engineer.

The benefits of Sigma Phi Delta include: a great support system for weathering the rigors of the engineering curriculum, a close bond of brotherhood that endures through out the years beyond graduation, thousands of engineering alumni worldwide, strong leaders and men of principle. Most of all, the men of Sigma Phi Delta comprise the most exclusive fraternity on any campus, a fraternity of engineers.

Sigma Phi Delta is unlike any other fraternity on campus because we realize that if we embodied the typical fraternity stereotype we wouldn't last long as engineers. On the other hand, we realize that there also exists a negative stereotype regarding what people expect when they interact with engineers. Sigma Phi Delta attempts to strike the fine balance that exists between these social and professional worlds. We invite you to meet any of our young men on our respective campuses and see for yourself what exactly constitutes a fraternity of engineers. We know you'll find sociable, young men who are leaders on their campuses.

Sigma Phi Delta is also dedicated to the protection of its members. To mitigate risk, we train all our members on the Fraternity's
Risk Reduction Policy. In addition to the General Liability Insurance policy Sigma Phi Delta carries for each chapter, each student has a separate Member Accident Protection Plan (MAPP). This extra insurance helps to cover medical bills if something happens to them while an undergraduate member of Sigma Phi Delta. In these ways, Sigma Phi Delta ensures that we live by our credo that "the number one duty of a college man is application to scholarship".

Leadership Opportunities

    • Leadership is a skill that needs to be nurtured through experience and education.  Sigma Phi Delta is working to create leaders for the engineering community at large.
    • Sigma Phi Delta offers formal training programs in communication, leadership, and management that help individuals run their chapters more efficiently and gives them a head start in their career.
    • Sigma Phi Delta members have the opportunity to attain leadership experience through roles such as marketing, recruiting, facilities, financial, and executive positions.
    • Sigma Phi Delta alumni hold key positions in industry and have significant experience that they share with members during regularly held professional events and during internship opportunities.
