Alum Feels Double the Impact from Hurricane Harvey

Hurricane Harvey was a devastating experience for my family and me. It was our first experience with a flood of this magnitude. We had been through hurricanes before but not nearly as damaging as this one. At first, we did not pay much attention to it since in our past experiences hurricanes caused minimal damages and there was no need to evacuate. With Harvey, the day before it hit, water was already about six inches high and it had already covered our entire front and back yard.

Hurricane Harvey: A Family’s Life Devastated by Water

Sigma Phi Delta brothers in Texas continue to be impacted by the devastation caused by Hurricane Harvey. Joseph “U/No” Jordan ’17 of Beta Gamma Chapter shares his heartbreaking story, including how his family was evacuated, how their personal belongings were destroyed, and how his wife’s family suffered not one but two deaths in the storm’s aftermath. He thanks his SPD brothers for coming to his family’s aid at a time they needed it most.

Storms Also Affected Brothers Miles Away

Hurricanes Harvey and Irma also affected Peter Bekey '57 (Alpha Chapter)--even though he lives thousands of miles away in San Rafael, Calif. Peter owns a vacation home, which was heavily damaged by both storms, in the Atlantic.
